Verdict:

Well designed with plenty of features, but not quite up to the standard of Roxio Creator 7

Rating:

4

Price:

£62

DVD Solution from CyberLink aims to provide you with a one-stop resource for DVD burning. Featuring a similar interface, and indeed functionality, to Roxio Creator 7, all the programs are accessed from a well-designed menu that's divided into seven categories.

The features available range from watching DVD movies and burning data and audio CDs through to transferring digital photos to DVD and performing both copy and backup tasks. Everything is aimed towards the novice user so, if you're new to DVD burning, it won't take long to get to grips with DVD Solution.

The package comes in two different versions: Gold and Platinum. The Platinum version includes the same features as the Gold version, but it also houses the ability to copy DVDs using PowerDVD Copy and edit video footage with PowerDirector 3 Express. The latter utility also includes the option to create DivX movies. If you don't think you'll use either of these, the Gold edition will save you £21.

While DVD Solution Platinum has an impressive suite of utilities, it can't quite match up to the features offered by Roxio Creator 7. However, the cheaper Gold edition is good value for money if you don't require the video editing and DVD copying components.
