Verdict:

A very good portable media player that's not overly reliant on access to a computer

Rating:

4

Price:

£450

The AV700 offers widescreen video when on the move, with enough features to satisfy any media addict.

In addition to video it can play music and display slideshows of photos, which can be copied direct from compatible digital cameras. A 40Gb hard disk offers plenty of storage space, while a 100Gb version is also available.

The AV700 is dominated by the screen, with control buttons on either side. Video quality is very good and the internal speaker is reasonable. The AV700 claims four hours of video playback and 30 hours of music on a charged battery.

The cradle can record video and has an attachment to send infrared commands direct to a video player or TV decoder box. The device can also edit recorded video.

The AV700 is an impressive media player and the recording function removes the need for a TV tuner to watch video on the move.
