UK consumers can now access the beta version of Microsoft's package of
security software.
Windows
Live OneCare (v1.5) beta is a free trial and comprises a firewall plus
anti-virus and anti-spyware filtering protection, which runs continuously in the
background.
Also included in the beta version are more backup options for devices such
as USB keys and support for the forthcoming Windows Vista operating system.
Microsoft's standalone free anti-spyware product Defender – which was
formerly known as Microsoft Windows Anti-spyware – will integrate with OneCare.
But the company said it would also remain as a separate product for people who
don’t want to try out the OneCare option.
As well as the UK, XP users in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand,
Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands,
Singapore, Spain, and Switzerland will also be able to trial the OneCare system.
Prices for OneCare when it comes out of beta and goes on sale in the UK have
not yet been fixed; however Windows Live OneCare went on sale in the USA earlier
this year for $49.95.
