PC World to offer free Vista upgrades

High-street giant to sell two versions of Microsoft's new operating system

Written by Dinah Greek, Computeract!ve

All Windows PCs and notebooks currently being sold at PC World with a retail price of £399 or above, will receive a free upgrade to Windows Vista Home Premium Edition early next year.

The retailer said from 26 October until 15 March 2007, it will offer two levels of Express Upgrade. A free Express upgrade to Windows Vista Home Premium Edition will be offered to customers buying computers costing £399 and above.

For those who purchase machines costing less than £399, the Windows Vista Home Basic Edition will cost half the recommended retail price. A charge may be made for postage and packaging.
