Even in the land of the internet, ‘wiki’ sounds pretty strange and geeky. In fact it’s one of the most innovative and successful concepts of recent times.
Essentially, wiki is a prefix applied to software that anyone can use and modify for free. Its most famous incarnation is the Wikipedia, an online encyclopaedia which has about 1.2 million articles contributed in English – articles that anyone can edit.
This workshop demonstrates the basic features of Wikipedia, such as correcting a simple mistake in an entry, adding an original photograph and assigning usage rights, adding new text, linking to an existing Wikipedia entry and linking articles to other websites.
