With increasing numbers of people dual booting between Windows and Linux there is an increasing problem of sharing files between the two operating systems.

Linux can generally read hard disks used for Windows but the reverse is not true. Win2fs aims to redress the balance by offering a way to read partitions formatted with the ext2 file system.

When Win2fs is installed, partitions formatted with ext2 appear in Windows Explorer with drive letters assigned in Control Panel.

Detailed help can be found on the Win2fs FAQ page.

It should be pointed out this is just one of a number of file systems used by Linux, the others are ext3 and reiser. ext3 is planned but not finished. It should also be pointed out this is version 0.1 so the usual warnings about using software not described as ready for release apply. Always back up your documents before installing new software.
