T-Mobile launches UK music site

Download content from Street Gigs events

Written by Martin Lynch, Personal Computer World

T-Mobile has kicked off a new UK music website to capture some of the growing market for music and video downloads over mobile phones.

The operator has teamed up with US-based ARTISTdirect.com, the largest site for independent music online, to offer subscribers the chance to download content from its live music events, Street Gigs.

The content can be found on the new UK version of the popular indie music site and T-Mobile users will be able to download music, videos and photos from all of the acts that have featured in Street Gigs series. These include Kasabian, The Streets, The Strokes and Mika, among others. Users will also have access to material from the Channel 4 music programme, Transmission.

In addition to music and videos, T-Mobile will offer gig listings, ticket sales, news, content from upcoming bands, exclusive interviews and backstage footage.

The ARTISTdirect network has around 40 million unique visitors worldwide, with four million of them from the UK.

"Building on the success of Street Gigs and Transmission with T-Mobile the new site will be the perfect platform to further our commitment to music and our relationship with UK music fans who want to know more about our programme of activity," said Sam Taylor, head of advertising and brand, T-Mobile.
