PC help: Wireless as an option

Looking to create wireless broadband network at a later date

Written by Tim Smith, Anthony Dhanendran, Computeract!ve

Q I want to set up an account with BT Broadband. The option I am going for comes with a BT Voyager 220V modem. Is there any way that I will later be able to connect something to it to make a wireless network?
Nick Phipps

A The BT Voyager 220V is an ADSL router, which includes a network port for connecting other devices.

If you want to create a wireless network later, you can do so by plugging a wireless access point or router into the 220V’s network port. If you do so, make sure to buy a wireless device without an ADSL modem built in.

Alternatively, to cut down on the number of boxes, you can in future buy a combined ADSL modem, router and wireless access point, and replace the 220V with this. You’ll then need to set it up to access your ADSL connection, using login details that BT will supply when you join.
