All-in-one Eee Monitor PC on the cards

Asus unveils iMac-style ultra-cheap PC

Written by Guy Dixon, vnunet.com

Asus is fleshing out its rapidly expanding Eee brand with an all-in-one Eee Monitor desktop PC.

'Official' product shots of the device appeared on the French-language site Blogeee.net suggesting that the Eee Monitor comes with a 19in or 20in screen, a webcam, two USB ports and a card reader.

The back of the device sports four USB, two Ethernet and three audio ports, and a 3.5mm video-out socket in place of a VGA port.

The operating system is as yet unknown, but industry experts speculate that a Windows XP version will launch first followed by Linux later in the year.

Speculation also surrounds the Eee Monitor's internal specifications, although the smart money is on the same internal set up as the recently announced Eee Box desktop PC.

This means it would ship with a 1.6GHz Atom CPU, 1GB DDR 2 memory and an 80GB hard drive.

No official pricing has been given, but the Eee Monitor is expected to cost around $500.
