Swets reponds to e-book surge

SwetsWise TitleBank to incorporate e-book data

Subscription services company Swets has expanded its SwetsWise TitleBank to include e-book data following an increase in demand for e-books.

“The decision to include e-book data in SwetsWise TitleBank was taken because, although it’s still an emerging market, we have seen a huge increase in the demand for e-books here at Swets,” said chief commercial officer Thomas Snyder.

The adoption of e-books has perhaps been slower than expected but Snyder believes that is all changing.

“E-books have been available for some time, but as a result of increased availability, more and more librarians are choosing to acquire e-books instead of print books,” said Snyder.

“Also, end-users have grown accustomed to electronic content and mostly prefer it to printed content for a number of reasons.

“Surveys have shown that the demand for e-books is rising and that librarians expect to spend more on e-books than on print books in a couple of years’ time.”

According to Snyder, Swets is investing heavily to prepare for this shift in sector spend and intends to fully integrate e-books into its product portfolio.

SwetsWise TitleBank is an online tool that enables users to create a customised list of all the print and electronic publications contained in their collection. Its links let users easily access the content of their titles.
