Software maker teams up with drive manufacturer LG for SecurDisc
A new technology from Nero offers users protection against unauthorised access to data on discs.
SecurDisc uses a combination of a new burning technology and updated software from Nero to password-protect data on burned discs. It can also use space on the disc to duplicate data so that it's less likely to be affected by errors and scratches.
The Digital Signature system also applies a personalised mark to each burned disc, whether it's a CD or DVD, to identify it as authentic. SecurDisc supports all formats of CD and DVD, including DVD-Ram and dual-layer media.
At present the technology is available only to users of versions 7 and later of the Nero disc creation software, and of the forthcoming LG DVD writer, which is due to be released in March 2007. When a disc is created, the user is able to choose to protect it.
