Workshop: Customise Google Maps

Find out how to add personalised routes, photos and landmarks to Google Maps and share them with others

Rob Beattie, Computeract!ve 06 Nov 2007

Google Maps has rightly gained a reputation as a decent mapping and navigation system, making it useful both for peering into the back gardens of prospective neighbours and finding out the best way to get from A to B.

Now it’s possible to personalise these maps with your own content, including text, photos and ‘hand-drawn’ (actually mouse-drawn) directions.

Maps personalised in this way Google calls them My Maps can be saved and made public so that anyone can find them using Google’s search features, or shared among a select group of friends so, for example, directions to a party will remain secret.

This Workshop explores the basic features of Google My Maps.
