Power off in Vista

Scott Colvey, Computeract!ve 07 Jan 2008

By default, the power button in Windows Vista’s Start menu does not switch off the computer, but places it into a power-saving mode.

To shut down the computer in the usual way, open the Control Panel and launch Power Options. Click the ‘Change plan settings’ beneath the selected power plan and click ‘Change advanced power settings’.

In the options, expand the ‘Power buttons and lid’ entry and expand ‘Start menu power button’. From the dropdown menu, select the ‘Shut down’ option and then click OK.
