Avoid speeding by mistake with a GPS device
Whatever the opinions of speeding laws, there are penalties to going over the limit.
GPS Speed Sentry from tchart development is a useful utility that warns if your speed gets close to, or exceeds one of six limits.
The warnings are audible so there is no visual distraction from driving and these can be customised if required. The measurement of speed can also be changed between miles and kilometres.
Speed Sentry can also warn of speed cameras if the locations have been imported into the software. It can accept standard CSV files for this information.
There is plenty of useful information on the screen including direction. The location can be shown in several different formats including Ordinance Survey and eastings and northings in the UK. This could be invaluable when calling for help during a breakdown.
It can track journeys, saving the route as a series of waypoints in various formats including CSV and Google Earth.
Using this software does mean that the GPS cannot be used for route planning. But if familiar journeys are more common than those dependent on directions, this offers a way to keep using the GPS rather than leaving it in the glove box.
