PC help: Scanning text option

Optical character recognition could help

Tim Smith and Anthony Dhanendran, Computeract!ve 21 Jan 2008

Q I am having problems scanning text with my new Brother DCP-115C multifunction device.

The scan of the page is always saved as a pdf or tiff file and is far larger than the text document should be. There are four options when scanning: Image, OCR, email and file.

A The solution is to use the OCR option. This stands for optical character recognition and is software that can recognise the shape of text and convert what is a picture, as far as the computer is concerned, to a text document.

This particular multifunction device is supplied with OmniPage OCR for this purpose and this should have been installed when the multifunction device was set up.
