PC help: Group your file types

Quickly find what you want

Scott Colvey, Computeract!ve 23 Jan 2008

When browsing mixed lists of document and media file types in Windows Explorer, it’s possible to group the file types with separate headings - useful when looking for a specific file.

In the left pane of Windows Explorer click a folder. In the right pane right-click on a blank space. On the pop-up menu point to Arrange Icons By and click Type in side list.

Repeat that process but this time click to add a tick against Show in Groups. To make all folders show their contents like this, click Folder Options in Tools menu, click View tab, click Apply to All Folders, click OK.
