Workshop: Inspect hidden data stored in fields

Your PC keeps lots of information in the files it stores. Here’s how to put it to good use

Every file stored on a computer contains information. However, they also contain information about that information. This might include the size and type of the file, the author and any number of other attributes, depending on the file type. This extra information is known as metadata and it can be very useful.

By examining metadata, it’s possible to find out when a file was created and by whom, and to discover the resolution of images or the quality of a music file. Once understood, metadata can be used to track changes or help find a particular version of that file.
