Unless you enable the 'game' option, there's no way you can describe DCS A-10C as a game, it's a full on simulator of this very complex American attack aircraft. If you spend long enough with the manual (over an hour a day on the train say) and hang out on the DCS forum, there are some pretty amazing details to be found. Here are five of my favourites, from the sublime to the ridiculous.
We love Skyrim. It's an amazingly detailed world filled with all kinds of characters. But every so often there are moments that stretch our credularity to the limits, even for a world filled with magic and dragons. Here are five that stick in our minds.
When I reviewed the last flight simulator from Digital Combat Simulator the subject was the modern attack aircraft, the A-10C. One comment from a reader was that these modern jets are just too complicated. With a 700 page manual it's hard to disagree, so I was pleased to hear that the next aircraft will be the P-51D Mustang. From a patriotic point of view, I'd prefer the Spitfire, but the Mustang was powered by a Rolls Royce engine so I can still feel proud
The game might not be out yet, but the manual is and it does a great job of selling the full game. It's also the most detailed guide to the aircraft itself that I've ever read, so it's worth reading if you have any interest in the Mustang.
Don't believe what you read in the papers. Metro, the free newspaper distributed in major cities up and down the UK, today ran a front page story about paedophiles using Xbox Live to groom children.
Technology isn't all about the latest and greatest, it is also about early innovations. We take a look at the Binatone Pong system from the 1970s.
After something in the region of 60 hours of lunchtime play, hitting 328 monsters, 241 animals and 380 people with pointy objects and cooking up a lot of apple and vegetable soup, the mighty Alduin, the World Eater, lay dead at my character's feet. Clearly a small victory dance in the office would have been inappropriate but for some reason I had a vague sense of disappointment, rather like the Comte de Guiche in Cyrano de Bergerac. It got me wondering about how we feel when we manage to complete games. beware, there might be some spoilers if you read the full text.
