One of the (many) news releases waiting for me when I got back from my holiday last month included the changes to the Spotify Free and Spotify Open services. I wasn't disappointed to start paying for this service but instead by the reaction to the story by some Spotify users...
Sony has been showing off its newest products for 2011 at the Gadget Show Live 2011 in Birmingham.
One product on show is the N100, which is a media streaming device that can also show programmes from on-demand services such as the BBC iPlayer. To demonstrate the £100 player in action, Sony had it playing iPlayer programmes on the oldest TV it had, a 50-year-old CRT model which you can see in action in our picture above.
It was also demonstrating its 'premium' X50i iPod dock, a dual-lens 3D camcorder that records in the highest 1080p resolution, and another camcorder, pictured below, which has a built-in projector.
The maker of the popular Popcorn Hour media streaming products has released its latest model.
The £139 Popbox from manufacturer Syabas will stream music, video and photos from computers on your home network but it will also work with streaming services such as the BBC iPlayer.
We got a demonstration of the new product from distributor DAD Audio at the Gadget Show Live 2011 in Birmingham - take a look at our video for more. You can see all of our Gadget Show reporting by clicking here to read our Gadget Show Live 2011 news blog.
Hauppauge is taking on Slingbox with the release of its Broadway streaming product.
The Hauppauge Broadway 2T can stream television programmes and other video across a home network and across the internet, allowing users to view television programmes and clips on any computer.
The device includes two DVB-T tuners which allow it to receive Freeview channels (though not the newer Freeview HD channels). It also has inputs for s-video and composite inputs along with a USB socket to which a hard disk can be connected, from which video files can be streamed. The USB socket can also accept a webcam for remote viewing.
