First look: Sony Tablet S

The Sony Tablet S has a tapered design that resembles a book

Sony announced two new tablet computers at the IFA consumer electronics in Berlin last week. we dropped by at the company's stand with a our camcorder for a quick look at the Tablet S with Sony's product manager.

The Tablet S, which has an asymmetric design that makes it slightly thicker at the rear of the tablet when held in the landscape orientation.The effect is a bit like a book, and really quite comfortable when held in portrait orientation, but a little less so the other wa around.

The video shows one of the pre-installed apps that takes advantage of the infra-red transmitter built into the Sony Tabelt S, which enables it to be set up as a remote control for TVs. It works with all brands too, not just Sony sets.

The Wifi-only version, with 16GB of storage space (on sale from 16 September 2011), is expected to cost £399, rising to £499 for both the 32GB Wifi-only and 16GB 3G versions, which will hit the shops a week later.
