Simple clear advice in plain English

"How about a nice game of chess?"

Board games, animated

chess

This superb 'claymation' animation depicts a famous game of chess, the Roesch-Schlage match that took place in Hamburg in 1910.

According to the video's description, some of the moves from the game were used in Stanley Kubrick film of Arthur C Clarke's book 2001: A Space Odyssey, as moves made in the game between Frank Poole and Hal.

It's very reminiscent of Battle Chess (below) and even the old 8-bit game Archon.

Speaking of old games, I recently came across this remarkable Amazon listing, for a book called Invasion of the Space Invaders (1982) by one Martin Amis and with an introduction by Steven Spielberg. It appears to have been a cheap cash-in on the first video-game craze of the time. Amis, unsurprisingly, isn't proud of it.

Incidentally, this post's title comes from the end of the 1984 classic War Games.
