Many computer enthusiasts find that their knowledge is called upon by colleagues at work, but Liam Holding of Merseyside has gone beyond the call of hero duty with his work for Merseyside St John Ambulance.

Liam has worked his way to become a senior officer for the charity, and manages a team of 25 volunteers. According to commissioner of operations, Simon Galley, Liam's computing experience has been almost as valuable as his first-aid training.

"I would like to nominate Liam Holding as our Computer Hero on behalf of St John Ambulance, Merseyside. Liam is our volunteer county webmaster and IT specialist. His degree in software engineering and his computing knowledge have made him an invaluable resource, as has his expertise, professionalism and willingness to take on much more that we could ever expect one of our members to do

"He has created a quality website for Merseyside County, which is head and shoulders above the rest of the country in terms of design, user friendliness and it suits our needs perfectly. This mammoth task has taken Liam hundreds of volunteer hours to create and manage, and he has done this in addition to his usual St John responsibilities," says Simon.

Liam certainly has many skills, and is the man St John Ambulance colleagues turn to for advice on spreadsheets, setting up ad-hoc IT systems in mobile units and even logo design. "Liam is the member that we turn to for help, advice and support - and he does this without complaint to a superb standard. Liam is truly an IT hero in our eyes and we quite simply would not have been able to cope without him."

A need not a luxury

Liam is always there when needed and gives professional advice but in a way that is very understandable to non-computer minded people. He has been a great asset to St John Ambulance Merseyside.

SOUTHPORT SAVIOUR

Liam has come to our help on several occasions. Most of us are fairly computer literate but when it is the more technical side Liam has always been there, despite not having personal transport and having to reach us in the frozen north of the County! Well done Liam, and well deserved.
