The analogue television signal is being turned off around the country
It was bound to happen. This morning I replied to an email from someone wondering why their analogue television has stopped working. I won't know whether they live in an area where the analogue signal is switched off until they get back to me but I suspect that this won't be the last email of its kind.
In fairness, I'm not sure what more the Digital Switchover campaign could have done but getting a message like this out to the public is always difficult. If you want more information, there is plenty on the Digital UK website. They also have a call centre that can be reached on 08456 50 50 50.
You can help as well by keeping an ear open for friends complaining about televisions not working and checking if they are affected. I for one am very pleased that my Grandmother has been with Sky for many years and so isn't affected. Do share any stories below.

Digital switchover
when digital switchover takes place,it always happens at midnight, and i very much doubt if u will be able to get any tv until the morning ie about 9am,then if ur using a set top box u will probably need to re-tune the box,but also that box just might not work either, when we switched over in the west country,I couldnt get anything,so borowed another set-top box and that was ok so it was the box i was using before that was the problem, although this box was working perfectly in the first place, also the switch over happens in 2 stages a fortnight apart and u have to re-tune the box both times, retuning the box is easy,go to menu/installination/first time installation, scroll to yes and yes again

digital switchover
Hi,another thing with digital is,if u buy a tv with freeview and hd ready,it wont work the same as if ur intending to watch any photos u have on disc, with the anologue and a dvd/cd player added u can watch photos from the first photo to the last on the disc, but with freeview already installed and hd ready this will not work as such,u will have to go from folder to folder to watch, why didnt they just leave it as it was.(pass)dont know

You may not get all commercial channels
EWhether you will get all the Freeview channels depends on where you live, though. My part of the country was the first to go digital. We get all the statutory channels but, in a rural area, no Dave, no Yesterday, no ITV4. In an urban area you should get them all but out in the sticks you won't if the commercial service providers aren't inclined to pay for their kit to be installed on your relay transmitter.

digital is a typical govt con trick
Stroud an area of 47000 and many cannot get basic channels like itv3 & 4 so many are signing up to sky/virgin, what a con. it's an absolute disgrace, so the tv has gone & the poxy bbc licence with it. i'll watch streaming via ethernet and use licence fee to rent dvd's, screw the bbc & govt. i know many old people in this area who cannot cope with sorting this out and so they still only have the five main channels plus a few bbc digital like the ever popular parliment channel!!! they can't even get cbbc. a total rip off

Digital switchover old news
Once again if it's happening in the South & East it's a 'new' news story. Most of the UK has been digital for ages there were a few hiccups (a welsh transmitter was too strong) but it settled down quickly. We knew it would come as a big shock to Londonshire. If you're missing Itv 4 I wouldn't worry too much. AND we haven't got a drought up North either.

Digital Switch Over
You may find that with the final area to be switched over IE London at the end of JUNE that a lot of the missing channels will appear. This is mainly due to one Multiplex transmission being kept deliberately low to avoid interference in other areas. We are missing one Multiplex here in Suffolk due to Talconeston going live earlier this year but this will be resolved when London goes fully live in June and Sudbury will broadcast in full power. IE from 2.5 to 500 Kilowatt.

TV licence
its my understanding that recycling the TV and using a PC instead still means u will need aTV licence for live TV ! maybe OK if u only use "catch up TV " Try BBC iplayer John....

Digital disgrace
It's the old old story. More for them as have and less for them as don't. For those who can't afford SKY and the likes and live in rural areas - well, they just have to like it and lump it, or so it would seem. Fewer channels than the city dwellers but still the same licence fee! Where is the fair and equitable society? I'm sure if some of the money that's been spent on over-the-top advertising throughout every region of the UK had been used instead to ensure everybody received equal coverage, we'd all have been much happier and the money would have been spent more wisely.

freeview hd
I bought freeview ready , then freeview hd only to have to buy freeview with hd tuners as mine was full hd but the tuners wasnt (a sony) so I went for samsung as I had purchased the sony as it stated in big stickers full hd , the display I was told is full hd but not the tuners! now i have full hd both display and tuners , then i found out that 4g might block my freeview when it rolls out, personally I think freeview has been a large con , also the content and quality of programming is boring and mundane ie all these plus channels showwing repeats of programes shown an hour earlier , very disapointing
