Did Avast cause my PC to crash?

We believe that Avast's security software is good, so it is much more likely that there were incompatibility issues with previous anti-virus software

Avast security suite is available in both paid-for and free downloads

I decided to change my internet security software to Avast. I had a free 30-day trial and 60-day money-back guarantee. After downloading the software, which cost £44.88, my PC crashed. I had to pay £65 to have it put right. I have tried to get my money back from Avast but it has not responded.
Roy Pedley

We are sorry to hear this as we consider Avast a good security suite, both the paid-for and free versions. There were obviously some software compatibility issues regarding the download. It could be because Mr Pedley had not uninstalled his previous security software. However, not being able to examine the PC there is no way for us to find out.

We agreed to speak to Avast on Mr Pedley’s behalf. We told him we could not approach Avast about reimbursing him for having his computer put right, as there’s no proof that the software was responsible.

However, if, as he told us, Avast was offering him a free 30-day trial and full refund, he is entitled to this. Mr Pedley said all he wanted was the refund as he had contacted Avast well before the 30-day free trial expired. We contacted Avast and it has promised to look into the matter for us.

FAO; Roy Firstly I agree, you need to remove "ALL" of any previous Anti-Virus, cleaning out the registry and such like. The BSOD may occur, paying £65 to put it right in my opinion may be valid but gladly I can sort out my own PC software problems out. Finally as for paying for Security this is a no brainer, I recommend 3 top FREE security options; Microsoft Security Essentials AVG Avira I have excluded the wonderful Avast (which is fantastic) as you had problems with it.
