Spybot Search and Destroy 1.6.2

Protect your PC from the latest spyware

Spybot search and destroy protects your computer from unwanted sofware

As with viruses, spyware has caused such controversy that a number of software programmers have developed utilities to eliminate it.

Such is the feeling surrounding the issue that many of these are either shareware or completely free.

Perhaps the most complete freeware tool is Spybot Search and Destroy. This not only sniffs out and removes any hidden fiends, it can also immunise your system against over 400 different spies.

Regularly updated data files help keep you protected, and the package even supports over 30 languages.

Note that this is the release of the long-awaited Vista-compatible Spybot 1.5 release. Along with the brand new user-interface, there are all sorts of other improvements to fight and protect against the latest spyware.

Spybot 1.6 now contains support for the latest browsers (Firefox 3, Opera 9.5), as well as improved file scanning and more.

Little Beauty!

Hi, Just to say I've been using Spybot for a couple of years since I first connected online and got my PC jammed full of nasties. There are a lot of phoney free downloads out there that put even more irritating things on your PC and then offer to remove them for a fee. Being the stubborn idealist old git I am, I refuse in principle to pay someone for a problem they have caused. I subscribed to Norton through my BT B/band account, downloaded windows Defender for XP and SP2 for all its security and firewall stuff but all I got was a slow running PC with constant pop up warnings and no cure for many of the problems I had picked up. After cancelling Norton and installing Spybot (which I found mentioned on m/softdot com)I have a trouble free PC that is fast and no irritating popup boxes. I guess the immunise function must work really well as at the moment I am using win98se with no firewall, just spybot for protection, and nothing has got past it for months. When something does get past the blocks, if it isnt removed at the next scan (I update and scan weekly) the correct removal tool turns up in a week or so in the updates and spybot comes up with the goods yet again. I only recomend this product because it has genuinely got me out of the doo doo when I was near pulling my hair out, and if anyone else is in the same situation as I was and wants a way to beat the ***** who write this bloody spyware I believe this "little beauty!" is a good way to go. Spybot 1.5.2.20 will not install on XP SP3 RC2

Try, try and try again, but Spybot 1.5.2.20 will not install on XP Pro SP3 RC2 (XP version 3311). It installed easily on XP Home SP3 RC2 but no go with XP Pro - it crashed when it tried to download an update file during the install process.

IT WORKSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it really works. it has really removed all of the spywares in my computer. At first i was totally confused when the spybot said it needs permission from administrator then i knew i need to run it as a administrator so it really is good. you need to try it out whoever reads this!

I love Spybot search and destroy

I found the culprit for my almost perpetual flickering pink screen. It was a spyware product I was paying good money for. (not sure whether I should give the name). Uninstalled it and installed Spybot instead. It is doing a very good job and has little impact on the running of my computer. Sitting pretty beside Norton antivirus too. Well done!

need Firewall

Spybot only stops spyware you also NEED a Firewall. If you have stopped your Firewall and not had any problems you must be very lucky.

Works 100%

Paid for some software that failed to remove a nasty that installed itself on my PC. The nasty had walked straight past Norton. Installed Spybot. It recognised the nasty and removed it without any problems.

Spybot proved its worth to me

I have been trying to eliminate an ads pop up problem each time a web page was opened for some time now. I had AVG free, Spybot and Ad-Aware installed. During a virus scan, a generic trojan was found. I traced the file and tried to remove it but couldn't as the message kept saying the file was write protected. I ran Spybot which tld me there could be a software conflice with Ad-Aware and so i removed Ad-Aware. Using Sypbot, i located the file and this did remove the file for me. When i ran the next Anti virus scan, no virus was found and i no longer get the annoying ad pop ups. I was once dubious about using any software that had Spy in the title for fear of spyware etc, but Spybot was the only software that managed to sort these problems out and will recommend it to anyone now. A very useful tool to have.

Spybot Search and Destroy

Hey all, I would like to say it may be free, but if you have windows i am backing up Microsoft Defender in this one, I had both on my vista before i changed. I had a Trojan horse from a download, but i didn't know, i ran both Spybot and Defender and the Windows Defender Found it but not the Spybot Search and Destroy, so without Windows Defender i wouldn't know i had one and to remove it.

PersonnalAntivirus

Had the above malware on my PC (Vista 64 bit). After weeks of annoying false virus pop ups and with only partial success in other tools to remove it I finally tried Spybot and it's gone. Very pleased and malware free! No problems installing, updating.

Spybot Search and Destroy

Depending what you are already using to protect your pc is the answer to if you need SPYBOT SEARCH and DESTROY or not...! I currently use a full internet suite so do not need or use it ... Neaver the less i did and i highly recommend you do also... IF you are using the free version of avg anti virus as it is not a full suite .... *Comodo* has a very nice extra firewall that needs to be added to these two as well.. If you dont want to pay for your pc security and why should you make sure you build your self the core components of a full price suite.. i.e antivirus> AVG spyware> SPYBOT SEARCH and DESTROY firewall> COMODO Adware and root kits> LAVASOFT AD-AWARE Also make sure to learn the proper way to clean you pc of vulnerabilities or you will neaver get rid of them even with the best antivirus tools ... Good practice is to clean your pc using the disc clean utility built in to windows turn off the restore point s as this will delete any vulnerabilities left in the history run the free programs above.. reboot your pc when they are finished . THEN MAKE SURE YOU TURN ON SYSTEM RESTORE BACK ON FIRST.... Good house work is important as we can all help to stamp out these threats Spybot 10/10 Good luck enjoy spybot

Spybot Search and Destroy

I have used Spybot for quite a few years,it is easily one of the best anti-spyware programs, easy to use, plenty of features and a good start up manager. If you have not tried it at least give a go.

Spybot has let me down

I have used Spybot before and I was entirely happy with it. However, this time, using it on my new laptop with Windows 7 it has entirely messed up my system, even after recovering everything it initially deleted. It uninstalled my printer, non of my games worked, it deleted my windows settings - everything. It has wiped all my settings for every program and as I go into each program for the first time after spybot, it wants me to add in personal details as if I have never used the program before on this computer. I will not be using this again because it has done more harm than good this time around.

spybot has worked brilliantly for me for years!

anon 04 Oct 2010, I would suggest that your problems were not caused by Spybot but another program, as spybot has never asked me for any personal details. i have found it to be the best tool for removing spyware that anti-virus programs don't look for, but there is much more to it then that - in advanced mode you can stop rouge programs starting up in the first place! always recommend this program to friends and colleagues.
