List all the devices using your network

Don't let people sneak onto your wireless network

Using wireless technology is certainly the most convenient way of connecting a computer to a home network and the internet, but it does carry the risk of other people using it and slowing down your web surfing. Zamzom is a simple utility that lists every computer connected to your home network.

Installation is simple and once it is running it can make a quick or deep scan of the network.

The top part of the window shows your computers Name and the IP and MAC (Media Access Control) address. The MAC address should not be confused with the one needed to change broadband ISPs – this is called the Migration Authorisation Code.

The MAC address is a unique name given to every network adapter. This is a far more reliable way of identifying computers because it is very easy to change the computer name. The IP address range of the wireless network is also shown as a helpful reference.

The rest of the window shows all of the different computers found on the wireless network with their IP and MAC addresses.

The premium version can also display the computer name. This costs US$12.50 and can be bought from the Zamzom website.

There may be more devices on the network than you expect because it will also show devices besides PCs that are connected to the network. If you still have more devices than you expect, you should note down the MAC addresses of the known devices.

This would be a good time to change the network password and start using WPA based passwords rather than the now insecure WEP. Some routers can also be set up to block MAC addresses.

Zamzom Utility

Works fine on Windows7 Home 32bit, but not much use if you don't upgrade to premium version for $12

Then what?

So it tells you who is riding on your bandwidth, but fails to inform what to do about it. The basic program reveals nothing worth knowing. Hardly an inducement to pay out $12.50 + $37.50.
