Zimbra does contacts and tasks as well as email
Webmail accounts like Yahoo Mail are great but it can be a problem working with the email when you are not connected to the internet.
The Yahoo Zimbra desktop solves this problem as it stores local copies of emails for those times when the internet is not available.
Although the emphasis is on Yahoo Mail, Zimbra can be used with Gmail accounts (if IMAP is enabled), AOL Mail, or any standard POP or IMAP email service. All you need are the login and server details as required by any email software.
Setup is simple and there is an icon created on the Desktop, though not in the Start Menu on our test computer. It is possible to set Zimbra as the default mail program for Windows.
In addition to email, the Yahoo Zimbra Desktop can also be used to organise contacts, calendars and tasks. It can even be used to store files using the briefcase.
There are also some Zimlets, small web applications such as route information and mapping.
This download is for the Windows version, see the Yahoo Zimbra Desktop download page for the Mac and Linux versions.
