Find folders more quickly by giving them colours
Organise your files with Rainbow
Even with the best organisation in the world it is possible to end up with large numbers of folders in one place making it hard to find the right one. Rainbow Folders is a utility that changes the icons used by folders to different colours. This has been a feature of Mac OS 9 and one we have found very useful.
Once install Rainbow folders can be accessed either as an ordinary program, or by right clicking on a folder. Although the right click option is very useful, it's a shame it does not include a selection of pre set colours for even easier colouring.
Folders can be selected in groups or individually and there are some preset icons from different versions of Windows. Colour selection is does using Hue and Saturation. This offers plenty of colours to choose from but ordinary users might prefer an easier approach to selecting colours.
This is largely redeemed by the Favorites option to save particular colours so it is easy to build up a collection of colours for a consistent look.
One final feature is the ability to add tooltips to icons so that a message appears when the mouse hovers over it.
