Google Chrome 10

Take a look at this exciting new web browser

See how Google's web browser compares to Firefox or IE

Google Chrome is an interesting new web browser with some exciting technological changes.

The most obvious of these is that the address bar is now 'inside' the tabs. Given that the address is different for each tab this makes sense and does actually make the already clean interface look even more efficient.

The browser itself is based on the Webkit software used by Apple's Safari browser. The Javascript engine (used for Ajax-based web 2.0 websites such as Google's own Googlemail) is all new. A major advance is that each tab can run Javascript without having to wait for the others to finish.

In fact each tab works as a separate process in Windows, much like each one being a separate program. This helps to conserve system memory on the computer and should mean that if there is a problem with one tab, the others will keep working as normal.

One interesting new feature is the Incognito support that enables you to securely and safely browse the Internet without leaving a trace of your browsing experience, both online or offline.

It is still early days for this browser, but the genuine innovation and improved interface hint of good things to come.

Google Chrome also includes bookmark synchronisation, improved HTML 5 support, full ACID3 approval and more.

A Chrome Short Time

After I installed it I quickly noticed how badly it sucked and uninstalled it. Can you say HYPE!

Google Chrome is Excellent

Having had problems with IE8 I thought I'd try Chrome as it sounded pretty good in reviews I'd read. I have been using it for a few months now and I find it very good indeed. Searching within the address bar is great as it saves time if, as is usual, the website address pops up. I also like being able to save my most used websites to the Bookmark bar and I like that clicking on a new tab shows many of the web pages that you often use so they are there immediately. I can only imagine that it will get even better with time. It's stable and eminently usable.

Chrome is the best browser in my opinion

I have been using Chrome for ages and highly recommend it. I never 'got' firefox and never really liked IE. When IE 8 was released I thought not bad, but too 'clunky' and it was clearly based on Chrome. Chrome is simple, clean and very fast to use.

I really wouldn't bother

Its only good point is that it is free, and boy would I have been annoyed if I had paid for it. Avoid like the plague.

Chrome? I'd sooner use IE.

Its only good point is that it is free, and boy would I have been annoyed if I had paid for it. Slows your com down as it is always running in the background, I would rather use IE and thats certainly not a good thing. for now I'll stick with opera and firefox. Avoid like the plague.

What?

I really don't understand why people make comments about things they don't understand. Chrome does NOT slow your computer. It is NOT always running in the background. In fact, it uses less memory and system resources than IE and FF. Even though it consumes less resources, it renders faster than any browser on the market. Oh, and I am not a fanboy. Chrome is not my main browser. I am commenting only from a technology standpoint to refute the idiotic comments above. Avoid stupid people like the plague. Make your own decisions.

Chrome is my choice!

I have been using Chrome since it was first released and it is my primary browser. The only time I can not use it is when I encounter out dated websites that were designed to use only IE. Wake up webmaster, there is a new world and technology has moved on! As for Chrome detractors, with their inane remarks: You Can't Fix Stupid!

Quite agree

I agree with Van how anyone can say it's slow and hogs resources beats me,makes you wonder what they do with their computers.!!! Much faster and more responsive than IE8 with no crashes either.

There's no comparison

I've been using Chrome since it started and wouldn't dream of going back to IE. Chrome is fast, much faster than IE, DOESN'T hog any resources or slow down the computer. Maybe the users who had issues with it have more underlying problems with their system and could do with an update or two!

Chrome - what's not to like?

Chrome is a fast browser with a clean interface. So, it's easy on the eye, and has sites up and running while IE is still thinking about whether it might load today. The 'search as you type' address bar, and sophisticated page search (Ctrl+F) feature, were ahead of IE's by months. The only thing it doesn't do is select print/print preview. I've used it since the first stable release: so have family members. For speed, and ease of use, what's not to like?

Really Fast

I have been using chrome for some time now and it is faster loading than either Firefox or Opera both of which I use regularly.I find it stable and to use less resources than IE,F/F and Opera.I like Chrome Plus too due to the extras you get such as mouse gestures.

ex FF fanboy speaks

I have used FF for about 5 years and when Chrome came along I tried it and thought it was a bit minimalist for my liking and I missed my extensions and addons. With this release I can have all my favourites I use on FF and more. It is much faster than FF but you won't really notice much but if you compare it with IE it is like a rocket. I'm keeping FF 3.6 on but Chrome 4 is now my default. John

Recommended

I have used it as my default browser since they added the essential zooming feature (the first version didn't seem to have it!). It is quite minimalist but does what I want and does it cleanly and fast. The only real criticism I have it that it does not seem to scroll smoothly like Firefox so it is not very satisfying to read through a page that is being continuously scrolled by clicking the mouse wheel and pulling downwards. Apart from that there are a few websites that do not support it, most annoyingly Microsoft's own Windows Update site.
