XnView Portable

XnView Portable is a powerful and portable image-management program. It can import around 400 graphic file formats and export to 50 file formats. It can be installed on a USB memory key or in a user folder on a computer if you don't want to install the software and make changes to the computer settings and Registry.

Installation is simple. Either run the file and select a folder for installation or select 'Install new app' from the Options menu in the Portable Apps suite.

Once installed, it displays a folder tree on the left-hand side, thumbnails of images at the top of the main part of the screen with a larger preview at the bottom. The bottom pane can also be used to display the image properties, Histogram, EXIF data from the camera and any categories you have assigned to the images.

Although it is not billed as an image editor there are plenty of basic editing tools to correct the more common photo problems. It can resize, rotate and crop images as well as adjust the brightness, contrast and levels. There are several filters and effects for blur, emboss, lens and wave effects on photos.

Another very useful tool is batch processing, where the same filter can be applied to lots of images. This can also be used to rename a group of photos.

Contact sheets can be produced for selecting photos to print as well as multipage files.
