View & control your computer energy savings
Quickly & easily adjust your computer's energy use and save money
There’s a lot of talk about companies leaving their office lights blazing through the night whilst no-one is in the office. However, few of us discuss all the appliances that are left on overnight. A bulb or even a light is nothing compared to us users leaving our systems running through the night, or even in ‘sleep’ mode. Either way, they are using energy.
Many of us do not turn our system off as, quite frankly, it can take Windows twenty minutes to boot, start and launch key applications (ever used Outlook after an cold system boot?). Way too long just to start your computer and read your email.
The thing is that many of us simply forget to switch off our computer at the end of the day. Either we get called to a meeting and go home from the meeting or we leave the office in a rush to join our colleagues for a swift drink.
Edison is a tool that you can use to determine maximum energy saving from your computer, depending on use. You can configure a working day (when you leave the office), so that your system will go in to deep sleep so it conserves as much energy as possible. This is done by a simple slider where you configure whether you want to save more or less energy. Move the slider and you get a realtime value on the amount of energy savings you’ve made (according to my energy savings, over £52 a year. For one computer? I’m surprised).
Edison is superbly designed and requires activation through the application, after install.
Note the download here is for Windows Vista. A version for XP is available from the Edison website.
