Create backups and fix a broken computer
Recover files with System Rescue CD
System Rescue CD is a collection of programs on a bootable CD for creating and restoring backups, and for repairing Windows when disaster strikes.
Because it is a bootable CD, it does not depend on Windows being able to start but it is still able to read files from a Windows hard disk.
The software on the CD includes tools for repairing problems with the hard disk and it can connect to the internet as well for finding answers to problems. Internet access is also useful for saving files.
This downoad is an ISO file, an image of the CD that must be burnt to a blank CD with an appropriate program such as Active@ ISO Burner.

platform support
Been reading with some interest about ?system rescue cd?. It sounds like a great product, just what you need. I found the home page and help manual after reading the reviews. What I haven?t quite grasped is, the platform info says windows 2000, XP, Vista and Linux but all the info contained in the download seems to point to a Linux rescue only.

System Rescue CD 1.5.3
Seems to me from reading the available bumf, the only thing you can do with this in Windows is rescue data! I have not myself tried the disc.

Too complicated.
I repair and maintain computers for a living. I have used a number of these type of discs, and while I as a professional can use them, you should be warned, that for an 'average PC user' they are far to complicated to be worthwhile. Very complicated.
