Quickly start programs or open files
Keybreeze can be faster than the Start menu
Keybreeze is a clever utility for quickly launching programs and documents. Rather than navigating through the start menu, it suggests results as you type. It is started with a keyboard shortcut so there is no need to move your hands from the keyboard.
Once installed Keybreeze is hidden until a hotkey is pressed, by default this is the semicolon. The idea is that this is a rarely used key but is still under a finger when touch typing. Pressing semicolon again will close the Keybreeze window and insert a semicolon. If this is not an attractive setup it can be changed during the setup wizard. This is far more convenient than having to change the settings later. Modifier keys such as Alt or Ctrl can be used as well, so we set it up to work with Alt and ; to avoid confusion.
The starting wizard does ask which browser is in use and for a postcode for weather and so on. It will also open web pages in tabs and then use the default Windows browser.
As well as looking for programs and document titles, Keybreeze can also be used to make searches using websites such as Google.
It is possible to use Keybreeze as a portable program by installing it to a USB memory key. When installing, select the Extract option rather than Install. No different download is required.
