Opera is a very capable web browser
Opera may be free to download and use but it is not open source so it rarely offered as a default browser on Linux distributions. This version is indended for Linux and offers a familiar face from Windows if you are finding Linux new and different.
It has all the advantages of the Windows version including reducing the time to get fancy websites to load.
A private browsing feature is included. Unlike some other browsers this does not require a restart or appear in a separate window, and both private and ordinary tabs can be shown in the same window.
Opera Turbo takes the technology from the mobile versions of Opera to offer faster browsing on slow internet connections. Web pages travel to your computer via the Opera servers where they are compressed to make them load faster.
An email client is built in, as are some impressive tools for web developers. Other handy tools include mouse gestures and spell check. Bittorrent downloads can be transfered in Opera with no need for extra software
Opera for Linux is available at version 10.10, the latest version for Windows, 10.53, is in the process of being transfered.
You can also install the Opera Desktop widgets.
This is the Ubuntu version of Opera for Linux but it is available for 16 different specific distributions of Linux and there is also a generic DEB installation file. Click here to select your distribution.
