Family Tree Builder

Family Tree Builder is an easy to use genealogy program that has several useful online tools to help research your family tree.

Installation is easy, but there are several options that you may want to check carefully including changing your browser home page and installing a toolbar in Firefox and Internet Explorer.

Family Tree Builder can import GEDCOM files, the standard for sharing family tree information and does a good job of showing as much information as possible without getting too cluttered, or looking like a very boring spreadsheet. The main view shows couples with details of children and parents. Should this information be missing, the sections show a shortcut to add the information.

There is a section dedicated to photos and Family Tree Builder can scan your computer for images.

This version costs nothing to use. There is a Premium version that has several extra features. Smart research looks for more information on family members on other genealogy websites and the results can be merged. There are more charts including one showing every relative for one person and another showing your family tree members on a world map.
