Reduce disk clutter with ISO Disk

ISO Disk is a clever utility that can access ISO disc files so that they appear as a normal drive to Windows.

This can be useful if you want to access a file from a disc image file downloaded from the internet without having to burn it to a disc.

Another possible use is to copy existing discs to the computer and then access them instantly without having to look for them.

Accessing disk images in this way is called mounting them, and ISO Disk can mount up to 20 images at once, which is quite useful. It can also create the images itself, rather than relying on yet another utility for this.

It can even load an ISO image held on a network share, helpful if the disc images are being shared by several different people.

Many game copy protection systems will not let you copy the disc as an ISO image, but this is still a useful utility.

Didn't work for me

I downloaded this because I thought it would be useful after reading the review on this site but it didn't do anything, it wouldn't open the disc image so was a waste of download.

Sorry to hear of your problems

Sorry to hear that ISO Disk hasn't worked for you. I found it is a program that definately needs a restart to complete the installatin, I also tried to use drive letters that hadn't already been used by anything else - then again my computer here has three hard disks and a variety of usb keys so it's not 'normal'. The only other problem I've had with it was trying to use an image after putting a Vista notebook in sleep and then waking it up. I've found it best to close ISO Disk down before sleeping and then starting it again. Have you tried the built in image creation tool? Kind regards Tim

ISO Disk

I have successfully created an ISO file from a CD but when I try to mount it I get a message that I must 'reboot after this install'. After rebooting I still get the same message. Also, strangely I only get a response when clicking on drives up to L - any further letters don't get any message at all.

Unusual for Computeractive to let us down, a?

Hmm! All of the above but I notice the dates are 2008. It's now 2010 and Computeractive is 'pushing' it again. I had the same 'problems' (makes a 'copy' but can't 'play' it) so..... Shame! {:o(

ISODisk

>All of the above but I notice the dates are 2008. It's now 2010 and >Computeractive is 'pushing' it again. There's a good reason for this. It's a useful program that I felt was worth moving to the top of the list again. Regarding the date of the article. I checked before ranking the article that it refers to the most recent version, which it does. Sometimes software can go for long periods without updates. >I had the same 'problems' (makes a 'copy' but can't 'play' it) so..... Some forms of copy protection can stop ISO Disk from making the ISO copy. I tried it with my No One Lives Forever disc and the image failed after a couple of seconds. Other disks have worked fine. Are you trying to copy discs that you have made yourself or commercial titles (games or otherwise)? Kind regards Tim

Reboot problem

When trying to mount an ISO, it keeps telling me to reboot, although I've already done that. Can anybody help me?

Posted by David, 29 Jul 2011

Doesn't Work

Like others that have commented above, I was instructed to reboot when installation completed. But then received an error that I must reboot after install. I've rebooted 3 times. Still cannot mount an image. Tried several drive letters. Using Win7 64-bit. Waste of time.

Keeps asking to reboot Win7 64bit

I've installed this on 2 Win7 64bit PCs, and it says: Can't create (drive letter), you must reboot after install this software. Just noticed it is only "Suitable for" Windows XP & Vista. So I guess Win7 any flavor is out of luck, although it did create an ISO in Win7. That’s too bad cause I wanted it for a friend who is PC challenged. This sounded simple enough to be useful to him. One button to make an ISO, one button to mount it. He is dual booting XP, so I'll try it there.

Issues? Try MagicISO

I use MagicISO.. its free too. www.magiciso.com. If you just want to test whether your installation is ok or not, download a pre-made ISO, there are plenty, use google to find something like a linux install ISO file... If you still get issues mounting an ISO then, you know it's the software. You could just create a new ISO file and dump a few images in it , save it, then mount the ISO... this stuff has been around for a long time and is in no way more complex than creating a zip/rar archive(which is a simple task!) One thing to remember, USB drives/card readers etc use your available drive letters. So you may have less available than you realise. Your OS may reserve some letters which have already been used for USB storage. On pre Win XP SP3 systems you may not have all available drive letters available. Google the fix.
