Get a collection of useful software with the Google Pack

Get a new computer up and running quickly with the Google Pack of programs

The Google Pack is a quick and easy way to install a selection of useful programs

The Google Pack is a collection of programs selected by Google as being particulary useful. They are mostly made by Google but there are some exceptions including the Adobe Reader and Real Player.

Sadly the Google Pack is no longer provided by Google. In its place we recommend the Portable Apps collection as it has an even wider range of software to choose from. Click here to download it now.

The full list of programs on offer is: Google Chrome web browser, Google Apps, Google Desktop, Adobe Reader, Skype, Google Earth, Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer, Spyware Doctor with Anti-Virus, Google Picasa, Google Talk and Real Player.

Rather than linking to an individual file, the download link will take you to the Google Pack website where you can select which of the programs you want to install. Seveal are already selected but Skype, Real Player and Google Talk can be added to the list.

Click on the Download now button once the selections have been made and then on the Agree and Download button if you are happy with the terms and conditions.

This downloads the Google Updater, a small (1.2MB) program that downloads and installs the programs you have selected.

Given the time it can take to install software on a computer this is a clever labour saving idea although you are limited to the selection of software suggested by Google.

The Google Updater software can also be used to check for updates to the programs that it has installed.

A farce?

I downloaded the free disc from computer active which claimed lots of "free" programs but when i went to download some of them, most had a charge to pay. Not very clever is it,doesn't do anything for C.A's reputation!

Paid for software

Hi Derek Can you let us know which programs were asking you for money please? I downloaded and installed the pack and wasn't asked to pay for anything. RealPlayer does have a premium version but can still be used without paying. Thanks Tim
