Stop viruses with Comodo Antivirus

Comodo Antivirus is a free anti-virus program that has a very useful sandbox feature to segregate unknown files.

Installation is easy and has the option to install a 60-day trial of Comodo GeekBuddy, a remote support service that lets you chat with a support person.

It can also change your DNS settings to use the Comodo servers. DNS is the process by which the internet browser finds websites. Using an alternative service can improve performance and block access to malicous websites.

The interface is well designed with the right balance of information to keep you aware of what's going on without being overwhelming. There's a big icon on the left that shows whether or not the computer is safe. If the virus signature database is out of date, a button for fixing the problem appears beneath the warning icon.

One rarely seen, and very useful feature is the Sandbox. This creates a safe area to run unknown software where it cannot access files or settings. This is ideal if you are unsure whether a program can be trusted. It is also possible to send files to Comodo for them to check.

Definitions are downloaded automatically and scans are set to run weekly. Extra scans can be scheduled if required.
