This software runs alongside an existing anti-virus programme to give a PC an extra layer of protection.
Installing the software was simple enough, although at various points it did try to sell us extra, paid-for software that we didn't want.
The interface isn't the clearest and some options and settings don't come with explanations about what they do. A lot of the options, such as the ‘Worldwide Detection' screen, provided extensive and technical information about the nature of threats but this information is not particularly useful or relevant to most users.
There are options for both full and quick scans and also information on when the system was last checked and what potential threats have been uncovered.
Scans did take quite some time and even a quick scan took around half an hour. When it detects a potential threat, the software alerts you to it and in most cases issues can be resolved quickly and simply.
Threats detected are listed in a table, allowing you to remove various types of threats. You can also view what software is being allowed or denied access or has been quarantined. This makes organising what Threatfire blocks clear and simple.
For people who want an extra layer of protection on top of traditional anti-virus, this software is simple enough but a little bit clunky.
