A clever program that is useful for all kinds of games
Make gaming tokens with TokenTool
If you play board games or table top Dungeons and Dragons like games, making your own tokens is a great way of customising games or replacing lost tokens. TokenTool is a clever utility for making new tokens that can be used for all kinds of games, not just role playing.
Installation is quite simple though Java is required to run the software. Alternatively you can run the software live from the RPTools website here.
It is simple to use once you get used to it, but did take us a couple of minutes to work out. There is no need to load the image you want to the use for the token. Instead you drag and drop it onto the program window. Saving the image is done in the same way: drag and drop the image in the top right hand corner of the TokenTools window to the desktop or to your image editor. Not using menus feels a little odd to begin with, but it is faster and easier.
We imported png, bmp, gif and jpg images into TokenTool. Tif files didn't work but that's not really a problem.
All the controls are down the right-hand side. The dropdown menu is used to select the border for the token and the numbers to the side show the size. There are six size presets and they can be changed with the boxes below. The transparency of the entire token can also be changed.
The image can be moved around the token by clicking and dragging. The four buttons at the bottom of the right hand column are used to change the size of the image used inside the border.
