Use Google Chrome from a USB key with Chrome Portable

Google Chrome is a popular web browser that is fast and easy to use. It has an interface that is clean and unobtrusive but has just as many tools as other browsers built in. This is a portable version that can be installed onto a USB key or portable hard disk.

This Google Chrome download is just 1.4MB and it handles the installation of Google Chrome. It will download the latest version of Chrome so that it is always up to date. When we installed it, this download was about 23MB. The total amount of space required on the USB key is 76MB.

There are a couple of differences to the Portable version that help keep you more secure. Even though the Google Chrome installation is portable, all the saved passwords are saved to a particular computer.

This means that, if someone were to steal your USB key, they would not be able to use your online accounts. As theft is one of our biggest worries about using a portable browser on a USB key, this is a useful feature.

The other information that is not portable are the website certificates. This is because Chrome uses the Windows tools for storing these so they stay on a particular computer.

Flash comes ready installed so you can watch videos on Youtube straight away as does Vimeo.
