Download the latest games and play them on a number of computers
As well as a place to buy games, Steam can also be used to play against friends online
Steam is a great way to enjoy games wherever you are. While in the past, the best way to get the latest games was to head to your local high-street retailer or an online store, this is no longer necessarily the case.
To start with, Steam is a download store where you can buy the latest big-name games and also some less well-known independent titles and games from times gone by.
There are also special deals, with some games even available for free – such as the excellent Portal, which was reduced to £0 for a few days.
Games are available for both PC and Mac and Steam also supports online play. This makes playing the latest games on a PC or Mac more like playing them on a games console.
Online play is supported across PCs and Macs too. Friends can be added on Steam so you can chat online. Voice chat is also supported for easy communication during gameplay.
The interface is clear and easy to use with over 1,000 games available. The ability to have your purchased games available on any computer is by far the best feature of Steam.
It is worth noting that Steam requires a decent internet connection to download the large files for games and also for online play.
