A way to scan for malicious applications, keep track of permissions and lock a phone if it gets stolen
Bitdefender Mobile security helps keep tabs on application permissions and can scan for malicious software
While threats to Android smartphones are somewhat debateable, it is always prudent to keep an eye on what you are installing on them.
Bitdefender Mobile Security is currently in Beta, meaning it is still being worked on by the developer. Like many security applications for Android, it can scan a phone for malicious software and check what access permissions applications have, and it has an anti-theft feature.
The most useful feature is a list of installed applications that explains what permissions they have been granted. If a user is unhappy with a permission that an application has, such as internet access or access to contact information, then it can be uninstalled. The malicious software scanner offers peace of mind and was surprisingly quick.
The anti-theft option also worked well. It can remotely lock the phone or even wipe it, which is useful if it is lost or stolen.
At the moment Bit Defender Mobile Security is free to download. Compared to other Android security apps, it is easy to use and doesn't have any noticeable impact on the speed or performance of the device. For added security and peace of mind, this is well worth downloading.
