Keep sudden thoughts written down on the Windows Desktop
It's easy to organise notes on the desktop with StickyPad
The humble PostIt note is still a very useful tool, StickyPad is an electronic version for the Windows Desktop, so you can create notes that are easier to read and can emailed to friends.
Installation is easy and an icon for new notes can be added to the Start menu. Once started, the StickyPad icon appears in the Notification Area next to the clock. The help page appear automatically the first time it runs, which is a helpful touch.
Clicking on the StickPad icon opens a small window above the clock that can be used to create a new note or show all the notes that have been left on the Desktop.
A helpful extra in this window is a section with four shortcuts to other programs. By default these are Windows Libraries, Windows Media Player, Notepad and the Windows Calculators. These shortcuts can be changed in the options.
The options window lets you choose the font for the notes and set a single colour if you would rather not have a different colour for every note. Sadly this is the only formatting that can be set. There is no way to add formatted bullet points in notes other than doing it by hand with stars or dashes. Notes can be made translucent so they don't completely obscure what's beneath them.
There are two keyboard shortcuts for StickyPad. One creates a new note and the other shows all notes. Both use the Windows key and work when other programs are in use.
Reminders can be added to notes, the time and date added through a menu and they can be emailed or printed.
While it's a shame not to be able to format the contents of notes, StickyPad is a good way of quickly jotting down thoughts and ideas on the Windows Desktop.
