Search for music online and play it from one handy program
Listen to online music with Freemake Music Box
The internet is a great place to find music, especially from artists who aren't with the big name labels. Freemake Music Box is a standalone program that can be used to find and listen to music from a wide variety of artists.
Installation is simple and this download will automatically download and install the latest version of Music Box. When we tested it, the download was 23MB plus as extra 28MB if the Microsoft .NET Framework 4 isn't already installed. You will also need Adobe Flash installed or an HTML5 compatible web browser.
Music Box is very simple to use. There is a search bar at the top of the window used to look for music just as you would in Youtube. As tracks are found you can click on the artist name or album title (if available) to filter the results in this way.
Double click on a track to start playing it. If there is video available, it will appear in the bottom left of the program.
This wouldn't really offer much more than searching Youtube if it were not for the ability to create playlists for your favourite tracks.
Freemake Music Box is a good idea and it is possible to search by lots of different terms, styles and genres as well as artists and albums.
There are a couple of disadvantages. Videos from YouTube that have had embedding disabled won't play and there doesn't seem to be any way of opening the video in a browser, which would have got round that problem. YouTube can also create playlists that can be looped and played in a shuffle mode so Music Box doesn't offer much more.
