Keep an eye on how much bandwidth you are using and prevent going over fair usage limits with this useful tool
Check your internet usage with the thinkbroadband ttbmeter app
There are plenty of reasons for wanting to keep an eye on your internet connection. We all want to make sure that we are getting the best possible speed but keeping within monthly bandwidth limits is also important. The ttbmeter from Thinkbroadband is a useful tool for finding out how fast an internet connection is and how it is being used.
Installation is simple as there isn't much to customise for a computer. Free registration is recommended but isn't mandatory. Registration will allow you to view longer-term statistics about your internet usage online and help thinkbroadband to collate statistics on regional broadband performance.
As well as measuring how much bandwidth you are using on your broadband connection, tbbMeter can perform automated testing of your connection. This is explained as being part of a wider survey of broadband connections. This is only around 15MB transferred a day and it is possible to set an upper monthly limit on the amount of data ttbmeter will transfer.
ttbMeter is pretty simple to look at. Most of the window is a graph showing internet traffic with two bars on the right-hand side showing current throughput both to and from the internet. The menus are at the bottom and are well laid out.
There are plenty of tests built in with different file sizes and the option to adjust and monitor particular types of internet traffic.
ttbMeter isn't just about measuring your broadband connection as it can be used to avoid going over monthly bandwidth limits thanks to the quota warnings. One important word of warning is that ttbMeter can only measure bandwidth used by the computer it is installed on. If you are streaming television through another device, such as a games console for example, this traffic won't be taken into account. It's not really fair to blame ttbMeter as the only way to do this would be to route all internet traffic through that PC. That wouldn't be easy.
ttbMeter will check for updates automatically and offer to install them when they are available. This is a simple process.

Do you have a network in your house? And is you Xbox cnneectod to this network? To stream music you will need to have your xbox 360 and the computer that has your music files all on the same network. I would recommend that you upgrade to MS Media player 11, this already contains the media connect software and can be configured to show you all the music files that Media player has in its library. Turn on your xbox and select file sharing in Media player. This is where you grant permission for your xbox to have access to the media files on your PC. The media player software doesn’t have to be running for streaming to work, but you will have to use it to do the initial configuration, and you have to run it every time you add music, pictures, video to your pc. This allows Media player to load the new file details into its internal library.

D-Link modem broadband monitor
I found a utility at http://www.sabretech.co.uk/pages/adslmodem.html which accesses my D-Link modem and reports all broadband usage. If you have a D-Link (or a telnet capable modem) then it might be worth a look?
