Read ebooks from the Amazon Kindle store on the iPad
If you own an iPad, you haven't ruled out buying ebooks from Amazon as the Kindle app is available for iOS.
Installation is as simple as any other app as is connecting to your Amazon account. All that is required is your account name and password.
The Kindle app is also available for Windows and Android devices. Click here to read all of our articles about the Amazon Kindle.
A disappointment was that you cannot buy books from within the Kindle app. Instead you should go to the iPad store on Amazon, www.amazon.com/ipadkindlestore, using Safari. Once you have selected a book from this store you can buy it or sometimes they have samples to read. Tap on the Go to Kindle for iPad and the Kindle reader app will start automatically. The ebook we selected appeared wihtin a matter of seconds.
The Kindle homescreen shows all of the books, periodicals and documents on your Amazon account and filter by those categories.
The app itself is good for reading books. Text is displayed in a single column when the iPad is held upright and in two columns when in landscape view. If you would prefer a single column when in landscape.
The view options also let you select the text size, background colour and brightness of the reader.
Navigation is easy. You can tap on the right and left edges of the screen to move forwards and backwards through books or swipe any part of the screen. Tapping at the bottom of the screen makes the main navigation controls appear.
These controls include a search tool and the menu for moving through the main sections of the book.
It is possible to highlight sections of text, add notes or share text on Twitter or Facebook.
The Kindle app for the Ipad is a good way to read Amazon ebooks on the iPad and widens the range of books at your disposal.
