The colour matching game is lots of fun with a touch screen
Some games take to the touchscreen of the iPad, and Bejeweled is one of them. The core of the game is swapping two gems to form lines of three or more. Tapping the gems is much easier than using a mouse, and less annoying on the train than clicking a touchpad button.
There are four Bejeweled games included with this app. The Classic game follows the simple rule above with bonuses if you manage to create lines of four or more gems or create chain reactions.
The Diamond Mine level works against the clock – matches near the ground dig down towards the white line that is the goal of the level. There are also other bonuses to be found that earn more points. There are badges to win for creating chain reactions. Getting all the way down to the bottom of the screen earns a time extension so the game can keep going.
Zen is supposed to be relaxing with a background of soothing ambient sounds. There are several to choose from including rain on leaves and the sounds of the sea. The mantra mode displays a variety of positive aphorisms at the bottom of the screen in the level progress bar. It even includes audio and visual feedback to help you regulate your breathing.
In the Butterfly game you have to match the coloured butterflies with jewels of the same colour to make them fly away. The challenge is that the must not get to the top of the screen. Just to make it more challenging, all the butterflies move up a row every time you make a move. It adds a slightly different dimension to the game that makes thinking ahead essential.
As you play through the game your culmitative score is recorded and you gain in ranks. Achievements are listed in the iPad Game Centre. There is also a replay button lets you watch your game so far.
