Quick photo editing with Aviary for Android smartphones and tablets

More and more of us are using our smartphones as our main cameras, capturing countless precious moments. There are many applications to edit and add effects to these choice snaps to give them a more expert feel.

Aviary, a free download for Android smartphones and tablets, is a neat app that bundles together lots of features without costing a penny. The interface is well designed, letting you get on with the important business of selecting a photo to edit and then getting to work on it.

It will automatically find any photos hidden on your smartphone and display them in a scrolling screen on the main part of the device. This isn't entirely practical for finding a specific photo taken two months ago on a trip to Skegness, so there is also an option to browse back through galleries. You can also take a photo there and then and edit it straight away.

Once a photo is selected the options for editing it appear at the bottom of the screen. They are all fairly self-explanatory and manipulating and tweaking photos was surprisingly easy, even on a smaller smartphone screen. If you want more editing effects, these can be purchased as option extras.

At times the app can be a little slow, especially if you're doing a lot of work on one photo. Still, this app has lots of options and is a good way to perform minor edits on photos snapped on a smartphone or tablet.
