Keep notes and thoughts up to date with mobile devices and online
Evernote is a clever service that makes it easy to keep work up to date between several different devices and an online account. We have reviewed the Evernote Apps for Android and iOS devices elsewhere and this is the app for Windows. Evernote creates notebooks that can contain formatted text, images and audio files.

Installation is simple there is a chance to sign up for the Evernote service from within the software. The basic Evernote account costs nothing.
The premium account increases the amount of data that can be uploaded to the Evernote servers, allows notebooks to be accessed offline and shared with other users. Images with text are recognised faster and it becomes possible to search within PDF fies. A premium Evernote account costs £4 a month or £35 a year.
Evernote for Windows looks quite similar to Outlook with three columns. The left-most column shows the different ways of finding notebooks. The most useful of these is to give notebooks tags but it is also possible to search by the contents or when they were last edited.
The centre column shows a list of notebooks matching the criteria set on the left. It includes the title, date of creation, tags and a short preview of the text. Icons show when other content has been added to notebook.
Finally the right hand column displays the notebook itself.
Evernote for Window has some advantages over the app based versions. It is easy to edit notebooks and it is possible to add tables. There is a word count in this version.
The beauty of Evernote is that it makes is easy to work on a document on the move with a tablet and then pick up where you left off when at your desk.
Evernote can be expanded by using the Evernote Trunk, which is a marketplace for extra tools that can be added to Evernote.
